from El Nacional, Caracas, Venezuela, March 6, 1964, by Israel Peña (excerpt).—"Polish, precision, clearness of tone, magnificant union in the blending of the notes of the various instruments, accomplished with no forced effort, rendition from the almost inaudible pianissimo to fierce, strident cacaphony; all those and many other qualities of a great symphony orchestra we felt present and alive as something organic, yet artistic, in the University of Illinois Symphony Orchestra under the baton of its conductor Bernard M. Goodman."
